Annies Coin Laundry Yester-Year/History
Annies Coin Laundry has been around since the mid 1970’s and was named after one of the previous owners’ granddaughters from that era.
The building originally started as Hilberts Pharmacy and was built in the 1960’s and then converted to a dual store facility that housed a Holiday Hair Salon on one side and a small laundromat on the other side.
Sometime in the mid 70’s or early 80’s it was converted to a full store laundromat, much as you see in these pictures we took before we bought the laundry in 2012.
Tastefully adorned with complimentary colors from that era, Harvest Gold and Avocado Green, it stayed that way for a while and then we started slowly upgrading the laundry. We started by painting the dryers white and brightening up the place and doing general maintenance and cleaning.
We slowly and methodically changed out all the washers and dryers to a newer version of equipment, upgraded the floor and ceiling, painted interior and exterior and it stayed that way for about 5 years.
April of 2020, we had a small dryer fire that required the building to be shut down due to heavy smoke and water damage we waited for insurance adjusters/inspectors to review the damage.
Due to the Covid 19 related quarantine imposed on the insurance adjusters, they were not able to visit the site for approx. 3 months and we had to leave the laundry in the exact condition as left by the Fire Dept.
Subsequently, once the insurance agents finally arrived and accessed the damage, they gave us the go ahead to start the rebuilding process and do a total makeover of the laundry from top to bottom which resulted in a completely new laundromat.
Many thanks go out to Whitehall Fire Dept, our insurance company-adjusters and all the contractors that helped us build this state-of-the-art facility you see today, we opened back up on Nov 1, 2021.
Thanks to all of the customers over the many years who have supported Annies Express Laundry!
